We spent the week in the kitchen—dancing, singing, cleaning, cooking and organizing.

Below are the before and after photos from my personal 100-item Clutter Crime Fighting Challenge. The best part: once the kitchen was tidy I felt motivated to go grocery shopping and ended up making a nice dinner for the boys. It really is more fun to cook in a clean, organized kitchen.
Here are my results:

Before: From this distance the kitchen doesn’t look too bad, but up close my main prep table was crowded. And yes, that is a tennis ball next to the stovetop—I live with boys, so I’m surprised the racket isn’t there too.

Yuck—those flowers were sitting in an enormous tea pitcher because my son used the first thing he found that could hold water. They’re lovely flowers, but the container was not ideal. Also, there’s a large Truvia canister on the counter—no sponsorship here, it just happened to be very visible.

Hooray for the after photos! The flowers are now in a mason jar and look much better. The tennis ball is gone and I cleared roughly 80 random items—mostly dishes that needed to be put away.

What a relief to have a tidy prep table. I still need to collect a few glass jars so I can store herbs properly instead of using drinking glasses.
I hope the 100-Club challenge inspires you. Ten focused minutes or clearing 100 small items can dramatically change how a room looks and feels. A little daily effort adds up quickly and makes the kitchen a place you enjoy being in again.
