Cake mix desserts are a go-to when you want something delicious with minimal effort. For this recipe I used a yellow cake mix and added chocolate chips and Christmas M&Ms for color and texture, but you can easily substitute other mix flavors or mix-ins to suit your taste.

How to make Christmas Cake Mix Bars:

Step one: Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C). Prepare a 9×13-inch baking dish with nonstick spray or line it with parchment paper, then set it aside.

Step two: In a large bowl, combine the cake mix, eggs, melted butter, and vanilla extract. Stir until the batter comes together, then fold in 1/2 cup of chocolate chips and 1/2 cup of Christmas M&Ms.

  • Tip: Try different cake mix flavors such as chocolate or red velvet for a new twist.

Step three: Spread the batter evenly into the prepared 9×13 dish. Sprinkle the remaining 1 cup of chocolate chips and M&Ms across the top for a festive finish.

Step four: Bake for 20–25 minutes, or until the edges are set and a toothpick inserted into the center comes out with a few moist crumbs. Allow the bars to cool completely in the pan before slicing into squares and serving.

Christmas Dessert:

If you enjoy these bars, here are a few other favorite holiday treats to try when planning your cookie and dessert trays:

  • Chocolate Christmas Sprinkle Cookies
  • Peppermint Bark
  • Hot Chocolate Cookie Cups
  • Chocolate Christmas Fudge
